Spousal advice

My wife ripped this off and handed it to me. “You’ll appreciate it,” she said. I think she meant I might learn something from it.

About Marc Alan Di Martino

I'm a skeptical poet, blogger, columnist, occasional cartoonist, atheist, kvetcher and all-around lovable mensch - in precisely that order. I live in Italy, a country in serious need of skeptics and secularists who will challenge the status quo. Kind of like the United States and most places on earth.

  1. Wrong. The best humor questions the accepted wisdom and makes people think about the status quo. Naturally authority figures, like the father in the cartoon want to make humor safe and inoffensive. This is not what humor is good for. That is the bullshit trivial humor of the pop culture, a mere distraction from the issues.

  2. No question. Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, Mark Twain, all the edgy guys are my favorites, but I’m also a fan of whimsy, of You Are Old Father William and the Goon Show and Monty Python and more recent stuff like “Big Bang Theory”. But the cartoon is about repression, about making humour safe. Oh, and it is funny, by the way. I just wanted to say that it is funny because it’s true to life. The authority figures do want to control and direct humour. They do want to chide us for being relevent.

  3. I think Lenny did it to himself. But if JC came back, I’m pretty sure he’d to standup.
